Paxman's podcast will feature a pick of interviews from Newsnight |
Newsnight frontman Jeremy Paxman is to present a series of weekly BBC shows that will be available for download via the internet. Weekly audio compilations from his Newsnight programme are part of the next stage of the BBC's downloading and podcasting trial.
A total of 29 new programmes will be added to the trial, including Radio 4's Woman's Hour and hourly news summaries.
All of the programmes will be available to download until June.
Distinctive
The BBC's podcast trial started in May last year with around 20 shows.
Podcasting allows users to subscribe to audio or visual material for playing on a computer or portable device.
Last month it was revealed that almost two million BBC radio podcasts were downloaded during December, with the corporation's breakfast programmes the most popular with listeners.
Radio 1's Chris Moyles topped the chart with his show downloaded 446,809 times. Radio 4's Today came in second place.
Simon Nelson, controller of BBC radio and music interactive said: "In extending the trial, we're offering some of BBC Radio's most distinctive programming and a broad range of shows to cater to most tastes."
Other new shows to be added to the trial include podcasts from Radio 4's Start the Week, Broadcasting House, Today in Parliament and Front Row.
Radio 1 and 1Xtra contribute weekly podcasts featuring Chart Chat with JK & Joel, Radio 1 Entertainment News and unsigned music in the shape of Best of Unsigned and 100% Homegrown Mix.
