Jack and Vera Duckworth approach their 48th wedding anniversary |
Longstanding Coronation Street couple Jack and Vera Duckworth are to split, the ITV soap opera has confirmed. But the popular characters are not getting divorced and next month's split will not be permanent.
"They are famous for their rows and there is a big argument with a new dimension," a spokeswoman said.
"We wouldn't divorce the nation's best-loved couple," she added. The characters, played by Bill Tarmey and Liz Dawn, have been wed for 47 years.
Second wedding
ITV would not divulge details of what sparks the separation, which comes as the pair approach their 48th wedding anniversary.
Jack previously had a number of affairs, most notably with pub landlady Bet Lynch, and they originally split up in 1975 when Vera had an affair of her own.
They soon reunited, however, and had a second wedding in Las Vegas in 1997.
Liz Dawn, 65, and Bill Tarmey, 64, were honoured with an outstanding achievement prize at the Inside Soap Awards in 2002.
