Ealing Magistrates in west London also ordered the singer to take part in a drug rehabilitation programme.

He was warned he could face jail if he breached the order.

Doherty had been held in custody since being arrested by plainclothes police officers in Whitechapel, east London, on 26 January.

He admitted seven charges of possessing illegal substances at three separate court appearances last month.

The year-long drug rehabilitation programme will require Doherty to attend a drug centre and undergo monthly check-ups.

Doherty shot to fame as lead singer of the Libertines and became a tabloid regular during his relationship with model Kate Moss.
