McAdams to host technical Oscars

Actress Rachel McAdams is to host the Academy Awards ceremony dedicated to scientific and technical achievements on 18 February.

The awards recognise those working on the technical side of film-making such as lighting and sound.

Canadian-born McAdams, 29, has starred in movies including Red Eye, The Notebook and Wedding Crashers.

Computer imaging expert Gary Demos will receive a lifetime achievement award for contributions to the industry.

Segments of the Scientific and Technical Awards presentation will be broadcast during the 78th Academy Awards on 5 March.

One of the latest presenters to be announced for the March ceremony is Will Ferrell, who starred in The Producers.

Double Oscar-winner Hilary Swank and Matrix star Keanu Reeves will also be presenting at the awards.
