Angelina Jolie already has an adopted son, Maddox, aged three |
Hollywood star Angelina Jolie has adopted an orphaned Ethiopian baby, the country's officials have confirmed. The girl is less than a year old and the Tomb Raider star is set to collect her, according to Hadosh Halefom, head of the state-run adoption agency.
Jolie, 30, has already adopted one child, Maddox, three, from Cambodia.
The actress travelled to Ethiopia with co-star Brad Pitt last week. People magazine reported she would name the girl Zahara Marley Jolie.
Jolie told the magazine she and Maddox were "very happy to have a new addition to our family".
Rumours about Pitt and Jolie's relationship have been rife |
Hadosh Halefom said: "The paperwork has gone through. Miss Angelina's request was accepted last week. "Everything has been completed, so the family can take the baby whenever they want."
She met all 10 conditions for people wishing to adopt, he said.
"The two most important are economic capabilities and check with the police.
"Although she is a film star, she still has to meet the same requirements as everybody else."
Ethiopian anger
Jolie has travelled extensively in Africa and elsewhere during her four years as a United Nations goodwill ambassador.
She appeared with Maddox at the Live 8 concert featuring African artists at the Eden Project, Cornwall, on Saturday.
But her 2003 film Beyond Borders, about the 1984 famine, angered the Ethiopian government, who said it provided an "untrue" image of the nation.
She is twice divorced after marriages to actors Billy Bob Thornton and Jonny Lee Miller.
Recent reports of a relationship with Pitt, her co-star in action film Mr & Mrs Smith, have been rife.
She won a best supporting actress Oscar in 2000 for her portrayal of a patient in a mental institution in Girl, Interrupted.
