Jamie Foxx's portrayal of Ray Charles won him an Oscar |
Actor Jamie Foxx, who won an Oscar for his role in Ray earlier this year, has been invited to join the organisation which hands out the awards. Foxx is one of 112 people who have been offered membership of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
UK actors Clive Owen and Sophie Okenedo - both nominated for Oscars this year - have also been invited.
New members will be inducted into the organisation at an invitation-only reception on 21 September.
Oscar nominees, if they are not already academy members are automatically considered for membership, although they are not necessarily invited to join.
Actors Gael Garcia Bernal and Catalina Sandino Moreno have also been invited to join, as have Sideways star Thomas Haden Church and UK director Andrea Arnold, whose short film Wasp was another winner at this year's Oscars.
The academy has recently invited 150 new members to join in recent years, but has invited fewer this year as it looks to slow down its growth.
