Alam, whose affair with England coach Sven-Goran Eriksson made her famous, said she felt "hurt" after the other housemates nominated her for eviction.

Alam received more public votes than former basketball player Dennis Rodman and pop star Pete Burns.

Nine stars and one unknown contestant are taking part in the show. Model Jodie Marsh was evicted on Friday.

On Monday a judge granted permission to bring a private prosecution against housemate Michael Barrymore over the death of Stuart Lubbock, who died after being found unconscious in the entertainer's swimming pool in March 2001.

Barrymore, 53, has in the past been interviewed by police in connection with the circumstances surrounding Mr Lubbock's death, but no one has been charged.

Meanwhile, MPs have criticised fellow politician George Galloway for taking part in the show, saying he should be representing his constituents in Parliament.

And his impersonation of a cat at the weekend - when he purred contentedly out of actress Rula Lenska's hands - was greeted with derision from his opponents.

Galloway won �140 worth of shopping for the housemates on Tuesday after taking part in Richard and Judy's Channel 4 chat show competition You Say We Pay.

He told housemates afterwards he suspected he was being "attacked" by MPs over his presence in the show, after comments made by the TV presenters.

Basketball star Dennis Rodman retired from the game in 2000

Galloway escaped eviction on Friday, along with fellow nominee Burns, who found fame in 1980s band Dead Or Alive.

Former Chicago Bulls star Rodman was one of basketball's biggest names. He made his last appearance in the US NBA league in 2000, but two British teams are vying to sign him for short-term deals.

Alam achieved tabloid notoriety in 2004 when details of an affair with Eriksson were revealed.

Other contestants taking part in the programme are singer Samuel Preston, of rock band The Ordinary Boys, rapper Maggot from hip-hop act Goldie Lookin' Chain, actress Rula Lenska, and ex-Baywatch star Traci Bingham.

Unknown Chantelle Houghton was allowed to stay in the house after convincing the others she was, in fact, famous.
