Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise arrive at the Batman Begins premiere |
Tom Cruise stole the limelight at the US premiere of Batman Begins, arriving at the event on the arm of his current girlfriend, Katie Holmes. British actor Christian Bale, who plays the lead role in the Batman prequel, was also on hand to launch the film at Grauman's Chinese Theatre in Hollywood.
He was joined by co-stars Sir Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman and Gary Oldman.
The film, which opens in the UK on 19 June, is said to be even darker than Tim Burton's 1989 version.
Brutal murder
The brooding and violent prequel to the four previous Batman films from Burton and Joel Schumacher is based on a story by David S Goyer.
Following the murder of his parents, heir Bruce Wayne uses his inheritance to travel the world to destroy evil and restore justice.
Back home in Gotham City, he establishes his crime-fighting alter-ego to fight evil characters like The Scarecrow and the immortal R'as Al Ghul.
Caine plays his loyal butler Alfred, while Holmes takes on the role of district attorney Rachel Dawes.
Batman Begins had its world premiere in Japan on 31 May.
