 Singer Jack White has an "acute" vocal chord problem |
The White Stripes have cancelled four concerts in Japan after doctors told Jack White not to speak or sing for two weeks due to a vocal chord problem. The rock band were due to play shows in Tokyo on Thursday and Friday, Osaka on Saturday, and Nagoya on Monday.
"We sincerely apologise to our Japanese fans and friends and hope to reschedule dates as soon as we can," a message on the band's website said.
The band will resume their tour on 20 January in Auckland, New Zealand.
The website said: "The White Stripes are unfortunately postponing their upcoming Japanese tour dates because Jack White is suffering from an acute vocal cord problem."
The duo, also featuring Meg White on drums, topped the UK album chart with their 2003 album Elephant.
The long-player and its single Seven Nation Army won two Grammys.
The White Stripes' fifth album, Get Behind Me Satan, was released last year.
