Mozart's clarinet concerto in A Major is his greatest work, according to a poll marking the 250th anniversary of his birth. It was followed by his Requiem and the Ave Verum Corpus in the survey of 103,000 Classic FM listeners.
Next on the list was the piano concerto No 21 and then The Marriage of Figaro.
Classic FM manager Darren Henley said: "Mozart's music has connected with more people through the years than any other composer before or since."
The clarinet concerto was written in the autumn of 1791, and was his last completed instrumental work.
It was composed for Anton Stadler, his friend and clarinettist in Vienna's court orchestra, and was completed only two months before Mozart died.
On the day he completed the concerto, the composer wrote to his wife that he had played two games of billiards, "smoked a marvellous pipe of tobacco", ordered a black coffee and then "orchestrated almost the whole rondo for Stadler".
