Property tycoon Donald Trump has picked a 26-year-old estate agent as his new protege on the third series of US reality TV show The Apprentice.

Kendra Todd became the first female Apprentice on the NBC show on Thursday.

The show saw 18 aspiring moguls battle to be named most promising entrepreneur and win a place in Mr Trump's company.

Ms Todd, who will get a $250,000 (136,000) salary, said: "Dreams do come true. Just work hard and you'll get there."

'Terrific'

She will take charge of renovating Mr Trump's mansion and complex in Palm Beach, Florida.

"I think she's going to be terrific," Mr Trump said. "I like that she's a team player. That's how she ultimately won."

The show has been a hit in the US, where a fourth series and a spin-off featuring troubled lifestyle guru Martha Stewart are in the pipeline.

It has also been copied in the UK, where Amstrad boss Sir Alan Sugar takes the Trump role.
