Channel 4 is offering unsigned bands a rare chance for national exposure with the launch of its download music store. The bands will be able to upload their tunes and images onto the 1m website to create their own publicity pages.
Tracks will be shortlisted by music industry experts before a public vote selects their favourite band, with the winner appearing on Channel 4.
The site, the first download store from a terrestrial broadcaster, offers 350,000 tracks starting at 79p.
"Channel4.com/music is going to set a new benchmark for online music services," said site producer Gavin Newman.
"Whilst we're offering music lovers the chance to learn more about their favourite bands and artists, we are also going to be helping artists make their way in the music industry."
The chosen band will appear on Channel 4's youth entertainment show T4, followed by a spin-off series, Slash Music, in September.
