BBC chairman Michael Grade will not appear on the new ITV show
BBC chairman Michael Grade is to take part in a new ITV programme which will create Britain's answer to Hollywood's renowned Walk of Fame.

Mr Grade will be a member of the panel to determine which stars are honoured, but is not appearing on the show.

A BBC spokeswoman said Mr Grade has a history of television involvement, and his involvement has been declared on a register of interests.

Avenue of The Stars is being showcased at Switzerland's Golden Rose Festival.

The show has been taken to Lucerne to mark 50 years of broadcasting on ITV.

Personalities

The new programme, which was devised by veteran entertainment producer Michael Hurll for the broadcaster, will select nominees for the new walk of fame, which will run along London's South Bank.

The riverside walkway will be studded with bronze stars commemorating entertainment personalities.

Candidates must be British, born after 1900, while stars can be awarded posthumously.

Mr Grade, who has a long association with television, worked at London Weekend Television in the 1970s and 80s before moving to Hollywood.

He became Channel 4's chief executive in 1988 and remained in that post for nine years.

Mr Grade was made a fellow of Bafta in 1994 and became the organisation's vice-president last June.
