 Little Britain could be on the menu every Sunday |
Viewers of BBC Three will have the chance to choose what they want to watch on Sunday nights in a six-month trial beginning on Sunday. From 2100 BST digital satellite viewers will be offered an extra three programmes alongside the live schedule.
The programmes will be categorised under dramatic, funny and real and include hits such as comedy Little Britain and NHS drama Bodies.
If popular, the BBC plans to offer the service on Freeview and digital cable.
Stuart Murphy, controller of BBC Three, said: "In future we believe viewers will want to watch their favourite show when they want it and not wait until a scheduler decides to transmit it.
"It's a key stepping stone to true video on demand in a free-to-air digital environment."
The BBC hopes the trial will encourage people to try out BBC Three programmes they have not watched before and get a greater appreciation of what the channel provides.
On its first night viewers will be offered the choice of extra episodes of Nighty Night, Twisted Tales or Little Angels.
