 Norman Mailer will hand over 900 boxes of material in July |
Pulitzer Prize-winning author Norman Mailer has sold his archive of manuscripts, letters and books to the University of Texas for $2.5m (�1.3m). More than 10,000 letters are in the archive alongside unpublished stories, essays and notes.
Mailer said he decided to sell the university his archive after lecturing there several times in the 1960s.
Mailer, 82, will give the university's Harry Ransom Center $250,000 (�131,000) for the upkeep of the collection.
Conservation
The Ransom Center houses 36 million manuscripts, a million rare books and five million photographs.
The university will take charge of more than 900 boxes of Mailer's material in July.
The conservation and cataloguing of all the documents is expected to take several years.
Mailer won the Pulitzer Prize twice - for The Armies of the Night in 1968 and The Executioner's Song in 1979.
