Andrew Marr is the BBC's political editor and hosts Start the Week

Voice of the Listener and Viewer (VLV) gave Marr their award for best contribution to radio in 2004 while Palin received the award for TV work.

Marr's BBC Radio 4 show Start the Week was named best radio programme while satirical comedy Bremner, Bird and Fortune was voted best TV show.

VLV is a lobby and campaign group that says it acts on behalf of UK audiences.

Marr is the BBC's political editor and host of Start the Week on Radio 4 every Monday morning. He adds his radio award to the TV version he won in 2002.

Michael Palin has denied reports that he is to retire from travel shows

Palin fronted his latest globe-trotting show Himalaya last year - and has denied reports that he was planning to retire from travel shows.

"My appetite for travel is undiminished - but I'm not yet ready to sign two more years of my life away," he said.

Presenter Tim Marlow was given a special excellence in broadcasting award for his contribution to channel Five arts programming.

The best new television show was BBC Two's Venice, a documentary tracing the history of the city, while Radio 4's Engineering Solutions took best new radio programme.
