Mariah Carey has knocked 50 Cent off the top of the US albums chart, ending the rapper's six-week reign. Carey's eighth album The Emancipation of Mimi was her first number one since 1997 and had the best first-week sales of her career, Billboard magazine said.
Mimi sold 404,000 copies in its opening week. Heavy rock band Mudvayne were at number two after their album Lost and Found sold 152,000.
50 Cent's second album The Massacre slipped to number three.
But his single Candy Shop stayed top of the singles chart for a ninth week.
Carey's comeback has been billed as "the return of the voice" following her struggle to regain the huge success she enjoyed in the 1990s.
