Actor Dennis Quaid has starred in more than 40 films

Quaid, best known for his roles in films such as The Big Easy and Far From Heaven, joked about his 30-year career.

"I remember when this town was a beanfield," he said at the ceremony attended by some 300 friends.

The 51-year-old actor, who was formerly married to actress Meg Ryan, stars in the forthcoming remake Yours, Mine and Ours, out in the US later this month.
