US talk show host David Letterman was considered for jury duty in a medical malpractice case in Westchester, New York, on Monday. But despite pledging to be fair, he was not picked to sit on the jury.
Letterman, who lives in the town of North Salem, sat reading a book about Montana, where he has a ranch, before being excused after lunch.
In a separate case, a man has been accused of plotting to kidnap the Late Show star's son and nanny.
Kelly Frank, 43, a painter at Letterman's Montana ranch, has denied planning to hold 16-month-old Harry and his nanny for a $5m (�2.65m) ransom.
Letterman has previously given his top 10 tips for jurors on his CBS show. The top tip was: "Remember - everyone's guilty."
He is the second highest-paid US TV host, according to Forbes magazine, with estimated earnings of $40m (�21m) a year.
