Computer-animated movie Robots proved to be an international hit over the Easter holiday weekend, according to the Hollywood Reporter. The film, starring the voices of Halle Berry and Ewan McGregor, was the most popular film outside the US and Canada, with takings of $17.1m(�9.1m).
It topped box office charts in Australia and Argentina.
Will Smith's comedy Hitch was the second most watched film, with its weekend takings of $16.6m (�8.8m).
It continued to fare well in Germany and the UK, and opened at number one in New Zealand.
Oscar-winner Million Dollar Baby took the top spot from Hitch in its opening weekend in France.
Publicity tour
Sandra Bullock's Miss Congeniality 2: Armed and Fabulous opened in a number of territories, taking $10.4m (�5.5m)over the weekend.
It opened in second place in Australia, where Bullock recently conducted a rare publicity tour, and third in the UK.
The Ring Two was another movie which opened in a number of markets, with Brazil reporting a 74% increase in takings from the original US film.
In the US and Canada, Guess Who, a remake of Guess Who's Coming to Dinner, sits atop the box office chart.
The film, which stars Bernie Mac and Ashton Kutcher, took $21.9m (�10.9m), although the figures are not included in the international box office chart.
