A live broadcast of Wagner's opera The Valkyrie, due to be shown on BBC Two on Monday, was postponed after leading man Bryn Terfel was taken ill. The Welsh baritone was due to sing the role of Wotan in the production, at Covent Garden's Royal Opera House.
The first act of the opera was still shown, as Terfel's character does not appear until act two.
The remaining two acts were replaced with a film. All three acts will now be shown on BBC Two on 7 May.
Health problems
Michael Portillo introduced the coverage of The Valkyrie on BBC Two and he did with another opera in the Ring Cycle, Das Rhinegold, which was shown on Sunday night.
Bryn Terfel suffered health problems earlier in the year, when he was forced to "mime" through a performance of The Ring Cycle at Covent Garden after losing his voice hours before the curtain went up.
Veteran bass baritone Sir Donald McIntyre stepped in for the performance, and sang from the orchestra pit while Terfel performed the role.
Terfel has received critical acclaim for his performance as Wotan in the series of operas, which debuted at Covent Garden in December.
The Independent on Sunday described his performance as "career-defining", while The Guardian said he was "glorious".
