Zhang Ziyi and Tony Leung both won acting awards for 2046 |
The action comedy Kung Fu Hustle and Wong Kar-Wai's drama 2046 were the big winners at this year's Hong Kong Film Awards, which took place on Sunday. Both films won six awards each, with Kung Fu Hustle, which had a record 16 nominations, being named best film.
Tony Leung won best actor for his role in 2046, while Zhang Ziyi was named best actress for the film.
Actor Jackie Chan won a professional achievement award, presented to him by director Ang Lee.
Respect of elders
Chan said he appreciated the award because it honoured his professionalism and behaviour as well as his career achievements.
"Outside of movies, this involved charity work, an actor's professional conduct, being punctual, respecting elders. These are very important things," he said.
Chan's film New Police Story was nominated in eight categories, including best actor, but it failed to win a single award.
His son Jaycee was also shortlisted in the best newcomer category for his role in The Twins Effect 2, but he lost to actor Tian Yuan.
Other winners included the thriller One Night in Mongkok, which picked up awards for best director and best script, and the South Korean movie Oldboy, which won the prize for best Asian film.
Actor Bruce Lee, who became famous for his kung-fu skills, was named Chinese Film's Bright Star of the Century at the ceremony, in a tribute to 100 years of Chinese filmmaking.
