Stuart Murphy, controller of BBC Three, has announced he is to step down for a job in the private sector. Murphy - formerly head of BBC Choice - has been in charge of BBC Three since its launch in February 2003.
He is leaving the corporation to join independent production company RDF, producers of the reality shows Wife Swap and Faking It.
BBC Three's successes under his tenure include Little Britain, Nighty Night and the medical drama Bodies.
New role
"Stuart has inspired many programme makers and has been an insightful, funny, provocative and highly valued member of the BBC television team," said Jana Bennett, the BBC's director of television.
"It's been fantastic working with him in the BBC and we look forward to working with him in his new role at RDF."
Possible names in the frame for the job include UKTV Gold controller John Keeling, former BBC Two channel executive Red Johnson and Ftn controller, Richard Woolfe.
Jon Beazley has been appointed the BBC's new controller of entertainment commissioning. Mr Beazley has been acting controller since his predecessor, Jane Lush, left the corporation last month.
His job puts him in charge of such successful BBC shows as Strictly Come Dancing, Friday Night with Jonathan Ross and Test the Nation.
"I am really looking forward to pushing entertainment into new and challenging areas," he said.
