Smith has box office stitched up
Will Smith in Hitch
Will Smith's first romantic comedy, Hitch, has topped the UK box office in its first week of nationwide release.

Smith plays a New York "date doctor" with love worries of his own in the film which took �3.3m in its first three days in UK and Irish cinemas.

It knocked low-budget horror movie Boogeyman from the top spot.

Hostage, a film about a former Los Angeles Police hostage negotiator starring Bruce Willis, went straight to the second spot, taking �807,171.

Comedy sequel Meet The Fockers and Robert De Niro's Hide and Seek, completed the top five.

Meanwhile, Oscar nominee Hotel Rwanda dropped out of the top five, falling one place to number six.

French film The Chorus (Les Choristes), which was nominated for the best foreign film Oscar, entered the box office chart at number 11.

The Chorus, which is set in rural France in 1949, tells the story of unemployed music teacher Clement Matthieu who finds a job as a supervisor in a boarding school for troubled boys.
