Applegate out of Charity musical
Christina Applegate
Applegate is due to make her Broadway debut in the show
Actress Christina Applegate has pulled out of musical Sweet Charity as it prepares to open on Broadway.

She broke her foot while performing in the show in Chicago on Friday, and will not return until the musical starts its preview run in New York on 4 April.

Applegate, 33, will miss the rest of the show's performances in Chicago and Boston, producers said.

Best known for playing Kelly Bundy in sitcom Married With Children, the show will mark Applegate's Broadway debut.

She also starred in 1991 film Don't Tell Mom The Babysitter's Dead and guest-starred on the hit sitcom Friends, playing one of Rachel's sisters.

"The entire Charity family wishes Christina a speedy recovery and looks forward to welcoming her back to the company when the show begins performances on Broadway," producer Barry Weissler said.

Sweet Charity tells the story of Charity Hope Valentine, a dancer who always falls in love with the wrong man.

It was first performed on Broadway in 1966 with Gwen Verdon in the title role, while Shirley MacLaine starred in the 1969 film version.
