Sci-fi series Doctor Who has been shortlisted for three prizes at this year's National Television Awards. The show is up for the most popular drama prize, while stars Christopher Eccleston and Billie Piper have been nominated for best actor and actress.
Meanwhile TV host Paul O'Grady will compete in the entertainment presenter and most popular daytime programme categories for The Paul O'Grady Show.
The winners of the public vote will be announced at a ceremony on 25 October.
This year's event will also include a new award, given to the most popular "expert" on television.
Revenge
The category sees X Factor pundits Simon Cowell and Sharon Osbourne going head to head with celebrity chefs Gordon Ramsay and Jamie Oliver.
Elsewhere Little Britain and Peter Kay's Max and Paddy show compete with US imports The Simpsons and Will and Grace for the most popular comedy programme prize.
Last year's National TV Awards were dominated by Coronation Street, which took three prizes.
But EastEnders - which went home empty-handed in 2004 - could get revenge this year after landing two more nominations than its soap rival.
Veteran newsreader Sir Trevor McDonald will host the awards show, to be held at London's Royal Albert Hall.
