Global success for Burton's Wonka
Johnny Depp in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
Charlie marked Johnny Depp's biggest film debut.
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory's global box office takings have reached $201m (114m) after another high ranking weekend, trade reports say.

The adaptation of Roald Dahl's classic took $13.8m (7.8m) last weekend in 52 countries, the Hollywood Reporter says.

The Johnny Depp hit has been leading box offices outside the US and Canada for five consecutive weeks now.

Ron Howard's Cinderella Man increased its total to $27m (15.2m), thanks to $5.6m (3.1m) takings in 36 countries.

Holiday blockbusters

Tim Burton's Charlie has led in the Japanese box office stakes alone for three straight sessions.

The Hollywood Reporter comments that the current overseas market is fairly "fragmented" and populated by a number of specialised films with more adult appeal.

George Clooney's Good Night and Good Luck picked up $1.6m (906,391) after two weekends in Italy.

The latest adaptation of the Jane Austen's Pride & Prejudice topped the British and Irish box office for a second weekend with $3.4m (1.9m), providing a 10-day tally of $11.4m (6.5m).

Meanwhile, Bewitched opened at the number one slot in France with $2.4m (1.3m).
