Rosenberg starred in LA Law and Chicago Hope |
TV actor Alan Rosenberg has been elected president of the Screen Actors Guild, replacing Melissa Gilbert, from Little House on the Prairie. The union, which represents 100,000 US actors, has been split on recent issues such as merging with other unions and negotiations with producers.
Rosenberg has appeared in LA Law and Chicago Hope, and is married to CSI actress Marg Helgenberger.
He said he would "fight like hell to get actors their fair share".
The 54-year-old won 40% of the vote, against Morgan Fairchild and Robert Conrad.
Gilbert, a former child star, stepped down as president after two terms, citing frustration at rifts within the organisation.

Rosenberg was part of the Membership First campaign which opposed Gilbert in the past two elections.
The faction advocates a more aggressive stand in negotiations with producers and opposes a merger with another union, the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists.
"If we truly expect to earn our livings as actors, we need to stand up and fight for a fair and livable wage," said Rosenberg.
SAG is currently engaged in a contract dispute over actors who lend their voices to computer video games, rejecting a 36% pay rise for its members.
