It will be the second time Ken and Deirdre have married

Millions of TV viewers watched as Ken popped the question on Wednesday - just one day before the royal announcement.

Now both happy couples will tie the knot on 8 April.

A spokesman for Coronation Street said soap bosses had planned Ken and Deirdre's big day a few months ago, but kept the date a secret.

The wedding date is not the first coincidence between the Prince of Wales and the Coronation Street couple.

Ken and Deirdre - played by actors William Roache and Anne Kirkbride - first married in 1981, just two days before Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer.

Their latest wedding will be featured in a one-hour special of the ITV1 soap.
