Franz Ferdinand won two Brit awards on Wednesday

The bands, who both scooped two awards each at Wednesday night's ceremony, will play at the Albert Hall charity concerts in April.

It will be the fifth year the benefit gigs have taken place to raise money for the cancer charity.

Other musicians taking part include Robert Plant, Eric Clapton, UB40 and The Who founder Roger Daltrey.

'Amazing experience'

Daltrey is patron of the Teenage Cancer Trust, and has so far raised more than �2m for the charity by holding the concerts.

"Every year we try to make these concerts a uniquely amazing experience for the audiences and for the artists who give up their time and energy for the Trust," he said.

"But the true purpose of these shows is to raise awareness of this very special charity which makes a real difference to thousands of teenagers across the UK.

"We all know that without teenagers, without their energy and their passion for music, we wouldn't have rock and roll as we know it."

Comedy night

Also performing at the concerts, which take place over five nights from 4 April, is comic Peter Kay.

The Phoenix Nights star will host the comedy night and do his own routine on 6 April - which last year featured Ricky Gervais and Little Britain's Matt Lucas and David Walliams.

Other stars at the comedy night are yet to be announced.
