Picasso's Buste de Femme was drawn in the Cubist style in 1960 |
Nine works by Pablo Picasso, including a painting of his second wife estimated to be worth up to $1.8m (1m), are to be auctioned in Tokyo this weekend. Buste de Femme - modelled on Jacqueline Roque, with whom he spent the last 20 years of his life - was drawn in 1960.
It and eight other Picasso paintings will be sold alongside works by Marc Chagall, Bernard Buffet and others at the Shinwa Art Auction on Saturday.
"We've had a lot of inquiries from overseas," said a spokeswoman.
"It's rare for a Picasso painting to be offered at an auction in Japan."
The auction house would not confirm how the painting came on the market but said it was already in the country.
Picasso's Garcon a la Pipe, which fetched $104m (58m) in New York in May 2004, holds the record for the most expensive painting sold at an auction.
The legendary painter died in 1973 at the age of 91.
