Chan plays a reincarnated general in Chinese movie The Myth |
Action movie star Jackie Chan expects to stop starring in action films within five years, but says he will remain busy by producing and directing. "I don't think I'll retire," the 51-year-old said. "Maybe from the screen, but (not) behind the screen."
Chan said he wanted to produce action films, make small-budget movies and documentaries and help train young directors and stunt actors.
He was speaking in Malaysia while promoting his latest film The Myth.
Action and comedy
Born Kong-sang Chan in Hong Kong, he began his movie career as a stuntman and made his directorial debut in 1980, mixing action with comedy in Shi di chu ma.
Chan's prolific film career includes dozens of martial arts blockbusters and Hollywood hits such as Rush Hour and The Cannonball Run.
He took a break from Hollywood after Around the World in 80 Days - in which he starred alongside UK comedian Steve Coogan - was a box office disappointment last year.
His other US films since 2002 - The Medallion, The Tuxedo and Shanghai Knights - also received a lukewarm response. Chan said the US market was now "saturated" with too many movies.
The Myth is a Chinese movie in which Chan plays an ancient general reincarnated as a modern-day archaeologist.
