Friends came to an end in 2004

The Parents Television Council filed 36 complaints about various shows as part of a campaign to clean up American TV.

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) rejected all 36 complaints, after having been seen as increasingly cracking down on TV indecency.

This follows the uproar after singer Janet Jackson flashed a nipple at the Super Bowl, with record fines for CBS.

Kissing

The Parents Television Council (PTC), and other conservative groups, have become increasingly vocal in their campaign to make TV more "family friendly".

But the FCC said none of its latest round of complaints were valid. These also included an episode of Will and Grace in which men were heard discussing kissing other men and women talked of kissing other women.

Drama The Gilmore Girls was also heavily complained about, particularly one scene in which a grandfather reminisced about a college prank which involved nudity.

The PTC were offended by an episode of The Simpsons in which striking students carried banners saying "What would Jesus glue?" and "Don't cut off my pianissimo".

"None of the segments were patently offensive under contemporary community standards for the broadcast medium, and thus not indecent," the FCC said.

Three members of the five-member FCC panel approved all the rejections, but two dissented on some parts.
