R&B newcomer Ciara has prevented Elvis Presley from scoring a record three consecutive number one singles with three different songs. Her single Goodies went straight to number one while Presley's re-released A Fool Such As I entered at two.
All 18 of Presley's UK chart-toppers are being re-released to mark what would have been his 70th year.
The Chemical Brothers entered the singles chart at number three while The Killers topped the album chart.
US hit
Ciara has already has a US top three Billboard chart hit with Goodies, which features rapper Petey Pablo and was intended as her response to his 2004 song Freek-a-Leek.
She wrote Goodies with Sean Garrett, the co-writer of Usher's global hit Yeah!, and it belongs to the same new genre of tougher R&B known as "crunk".
Other new entries to this week's singles chart included Athlete's Wires at number four, Feeder's Tumble and Fall in fifth place and Lucie Silvas' Breathe In at number six.
Record company Sony BMG are reissuing Presley's hits as limited release singles, with fans eager to buy all 18 to fill a collector's box that went on sale in the first week.
Last week Presley's One Night became the 1,000th number one single in UK chart history.
