Bombay Dreams has played in the West End and Broadway

The producers of the show, which first opened in London's West End, are finalising details for it to go on tour of Asia.

Mumbai - also known as Bombay - is one of the cities being considered to host the Bollywood-inspired show.

But producers realise the show may need tweaking because Indian audiences are so used to seeing Bollywood films.

"It will require some re-visiting, as audiences here are exposed to this type of fare, so we have to see if they'll want to see it live," said Kerry Comerford, general manager of Lloyd Webber's Really Useful Company in the Asia Pacific.

Venues are now being sought in Singapore, Malaysia, China and South Korea and it is estimated it will cost $7m (33.7m)to stage in each country.

Love story

It has already had runs in the West End and on Broadway, but the Asian production will be cast with entirely Indian performers.

Bombay Dreams features music from AR Rahman, one of India's top Bollywood composers.

"It is exciting but it is also a pity that India is yet to see the musical which the rest of the world has seen," he told the Indian Express.

Bombay Dreams tells the story of a slum dweller who longs to become a Bollywood movie actor and falls in love with the beautiful daughter of a director.
