 Singer Bebe is in the running for album of the year |
Spanish singer Bebe is leading the field for this year's Latin Grammy awards, with five nominations. The songwriter, whose music fuses punk and flamenco, gained nods for album of the year and song of the year.
Marc Anthony, Juanes, Aleks Syntek, Obie Bermudez and JD Natasha received three nominations each.
The sixth Latin Grammy award ceremony, which honours Spanish and Portuguese speaking musicians, will be held in Los Angeles on 3 November.
Bebe's list of nominations includes song of the year for the track Malo, best female pop vocal album for Pafuera Telaranas and best new artist.
Reflects diversity
Colombian singer-songwriter Juanes, who won five awards in 2003, is up for best rock solo vocal album, best rock song and best music video.
Anthony, husband of Jennifer Lopez, is up for the best male pop vocal album award and the best salsa album award for Amar Sin Mentiras.
He could also win the best tropical song category for his track Valio La Pena.
Newcomer Natasha is competing in the categories for best new artist, best rock solo album for Imperfecta-Imperfect and best rock song for Lagrimas.
Latin Recording Academy president Gabriel Abaroa said: "This year's nominations are a true reflection of the diversity that currently exists in Latin music - not only across genres but across generations as well."
Awards will be presented in a total of 43 categories.
At the 2004 event, Spanish singer Alejandro Sanz won five trophies and Brazilian jazz songstress Maria Rita picked up two prizes.
