Clooney's film is in the running at the Venice Film Festival |
Actor George Clooney's second outing as a director is to open next month's New York Film Festival. Good Night and Good Luck, in which Clooney also stars, is a look at the impact of McCarthyism on 1950s America.
Other films set to play in New York include Manderlay by Danish film-maker Lars Von Trier.
L'Enfant by the Dardenne brothers, which won the Palme D'Or at this year's Cannes Film Festival, will also feature on the programme.
Competition
The centrepiece of the event will be Breakfast On Pluto, the new film from the director of The Crying Game, Neil Jordan.
There will be films from around the world showing in New York, including Poland, South Korea, the Czech Republic and Japan.
The curtain will go down on the festival on 9 October with French film Cache (Hidden), which stars Juliette Binoche.
Clooney's new film, his directorial follow-up to Confessions Of A Dangerous Mind, will receive its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival.
It will be in competition with another 18 films for the prestigious Golden Lion honour.
Last year's Golden Lion was won by Mike Leigh's Oscar-nominated picture Vera Drake.
