US talk show host and comedian Ellen DeGeneres has been picked to host the upcoming primetime Emmy Awards. DeGeneres received praise for her performance as host of the 2001 Emmys, which took place soon after the 11 September attacks on New York.
The 57th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards, will be held on 18 September at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles.
DeGeneres - who was a winner at the Daytime Emmy Awards in May - said: "You know me, any excuse to put on a dress."
She was the winner of the best talk show category for The Ellen DeGeneres Show.
"Ellen has demonstrated her extraordinary ability to connect with the television viewing audience. ... We are delighted to have her back," said Dick Askin, chairman of the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.
Among the presenters for the Primetime Emmy Awards ceremony are Halle Berry, Kiefer Sutherland and Charlie Sheen.
Programmes vying for awards on the big night include Desperate Housewives, Will and Grace and plane crash drama Lost.
