A man convicted of stalking Mel Gibson has been given a maximum three-year jail sentence after he was convicted of harassing the actor's family. Zack Sinclair was accused of confronting Gibson at a Malibu church and asking to pray with the star, breaking a restraining order.
Although Gibson said the defendant was not "overtly threatening" he was concerned for his family's safety.
A Los Angeles judge committed Sinclair, 35, to a secure psychiatric facility.
Sinclair of Idaho contacted Gibson following last year's release of his Biblical film The Passion of the Christ.

He sent 12 letters to the actor and director saying God wanted them to pray together.
He was given a restraining order but approached Gibson within 24 hours of it being issued.
When Gibson attended a church service in Malibu in September 2004 he returned to his seat to find Sinclair sitting in his seat declaring: "I'm here to pray with you."
Sinclair was convicted of one charge of felony stalking after representing himself at his trial.
Gibson, who testified at the trial, was not in court to hear the sentence passed.
