 Into The West spans eight decades of American history |
The BBC is to screen film director Steven Spielberg's latest television mini-series Into The West. The six-part epic covering the lives of two families in 19th Century America will be shown on BBC Two next year.
"We're really pleased to continue our relationship with the eminent Steven Spielberg," said the BBC's head of programme acquisitions, George McGhee.
Recent Spielberg mini-series screened on the BBC have included Second World War drama Band Of Brothers.
'Delighted'
"The scale and investment in this magnificent epic is something that we could not reproduce on the BBC," added Mr McGhee.
He said he was "delighted" that viewers in the UK would be given chance to watch the drama, of which Spielberg is executive producer.
Into The West covers the period 1825-92 and the different experiences of two families - one Virginians and the other plain-dwelling Native Americans.
The Lakota tribe's way of life is threatened by the pioneers, which is at the heart of Spielberg's latest small screen drama.
The programme made its debut in the US on the TNT channel last Friday, with a cast that features Beau Bridges, Matthew Settle and Gary Busey.
