Barker will return to Blue Peter in April next year |
Blue Peter presenter Liz Barker has said she is "overjoyed" after the birth of her first child, a boy. Dexter Jack Barker Todd arrived two weeks late but Barker said: "He's more than worth the wait."
He was born at the West Middlesex Hospital, in London, weighing 8lbs 3oz and the 29-year-old mother said he was "absolutely gorgeous".
He is the first child for Barker and her husband Michael Todd. She will return to the BBC show in April.
She will be the first working mother to present Blue Peter when she returns.
In 1987 unmarried Janet Ellis had to leave the show when she became pregnant.
On Wednesday's Blue Peter, Barker told viewers: "I've got a little boy who looks just like his dad.
"I can't stop looking at him, he just looks yummy."
Former Miss Northern Ireland Zoe Salmon is filling in for Barker while she is on maternity leave.
