Howard clan honour actor father
Rance and Ron Howard
Rance passed the acting bug through the family
The father of Oscar-winning director Ron Howard has been honoured for his own contribution to the movie business.

Rance Howard, 77, has been acting in films and TV since the late 1950s, and more recently has appeared in his son's movies A Beautiful Mind and Apollo 13.

He received a lifetime achievement award at the Asheville Film Festival in North Carolina.

His sons Ron and fellow actor Clint Howard spoke at the event to honour their father.

"His journey was through his own will realising his dreams, then passing down that responsibility to the rest of the family," said Ron.

The Howards have turned into something of an acting dynasty now that Ron's daughter Bryce Dallas Howard has started making a name for herself in films such as The Village.

She had an uncredited part in Ron's space movie Apollo 13 which also featured Clint and their mother Jean Speegle Howard.
