DJ Rob Da Bank has been with Radio 1 for two years |
Club DJ Rob Da Bank is to take over legendary broadcaster John Peel's BBC Radio 1 programme. Peel died last month while on holiday with his wife Sheila in Peru. His funeral will be held on Friday.
Da Bank - who made his name running London club night Sunday Best - is to host Peel's old weeknight show for the "foreseeable future", the BBC said.
The DJ, who was born Robert Gorham, joined Radio 1 in 2002 to host an early morning ambient show, The Blue Room.
His club night, Sunday Best, began in 1995 in Clapham, south London, and expanded into a label in 1997, helping the likes of Groove Armada and Lemon Jelly to fame.

This year he hosted the club's first festival, Bestival, on the Isle of Wight. Da Bank had been due to fill in for Peel after the presenter died. While Radio 1 regulars Steve Lamacq and Mary Anne Hobbs took the reins immediately after his death, Da Bank took over the show last week - hosting programmes which had already been playlisted by Peel - and will continue until at least the end of the year.
Peel will be buried on Friday at St Edmundsbury Cathedral, in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk. The public service will be followed by a private family ceremony.
