Marc Almond expects full recovery
Marc Almond
Almond had emergency surgery and was treated in intensive care
Singer Marc Almond is expected to make a full recovery, after a crash left him requiring emergency surgery.

"He is recovering slowly in hospital but is confident he will get back to full health eventually," a message on his website reported.

Almond was injured while he was riding pillion on a motorbike that collided with a car in London last month.

The Soft Cell singer was said to have been "overwhelmed by the amount of support shown".

Fan support

"Marc has asked us to pass on his thanks for all the good wishes he has received from his fans," the message added.

Almond had emergency surgery after the accident on 17 October. Fans inundated his website with messages and sent flowers, cards and gifts to the Royal London Hospital.

Gene Pitney, with whom Almond sang the chart-topping duet Something's Gotten Hold Of My Heart in 1989, also sent his best wishes to the 45-year-old singer.

Soft Cell
Soft Cell were one of the biggest pop acts of the early 1980s
Soft Cell, which Almond co-founded with musician David Ball, was one of the biggest-selling acts of the early 1980s.

Their cover of the northern soul song Tainted Love became the biggest-selling UK single of 1981 and the 10th biggest-seller ever in the US at the time.

The band's other hits included Torch, Bedsitter and Say Hello, Wave Goodbye.

After the split, Almond went on to release a series of solo albums and singles. He reunited with Ball in 2001 to play a series of Soft Cell gigs.
