Hit series Seinfeld ran from 1990 to 1998

This is not so much a collection of episodes but a document of what many call the greatest sitcom ever made and this is perhaps the DVD of the year.

This is mostly down to the episodes - series one to three - but they are virtually overwhelmed by the sheer quantity of extras, all of which are excellent.

Seinfeld is famously a comedy about nothing but the audio and also highly detailed text commentaries plus interviews detail everything.

And then there are never before seen stand-up routines by Jerry Seinfeld.

It'll take weeks to watch the episodes - the three-season set has 39 of them - and somehow they seem even funnier now.

Shrek 2: Special edition

This is surely the most expensive single film released this week at a cost of �27.99 - but it is worth it and, fortunately, you'll find that price is heavily discounted.

Shrek 2 is the highest-grossing animated feature in the US to date

So much so that there's very little price difference between this extras-laden special edition and the cheaper barebones version that's also available for �22.99.

The film, the same on both versions, is the very funny fairytale spoof with Antonio Banderas joining the cast as the voice of the assassin Puss-in-Boots.

But the special edition's extras even begin with the box: it speaks.

Talking packaging is on the outside and on the inside are extras that feel like a true labour of love with endless gags and options.

Characters from the film "host" each menu, from Magical Scene Selection to Special Features and alongside normal Making Of featurettes there are deliciously silly pieces including a Pop Idol spoof.

Dallas: First and second season

We went mad for this show in the 1970s and 1980s, and finally it's on DVD in a good but not perfect box set of the first two seasons from 1978-1979.

Strictly speaking, it's a Dallas mini-series followed by one series: what's being called the first season is really a four-part serial.

It's camp, silly and funny but that wouldn't be good enough to last you through the 29 episodes in this set.

Fortunately, you do get into the drama - and the commentaries are good. Picture quality is variable, though.
