Band Aid co-founder Bob Geldof will be honoured at next year's Brit Awards with a lifetime achievement award. The former Boomtown Rats singer will receive his award at the show in London in February.
The announcement comes as a new version of the Band Aid record is to be recorded for charity this Christmas.
Previous winners of the prize include Sting, U2, David Bowie, Eurythmics, Rod Stewart, Elton John, Van Morrison, The Who and Duran Duran.
Hit singles
As lead singer of the punk band Boomtown Rats, Geldof enjoyed 15 Top 20 hits, with Rat Trap spending 15 weeks in the singles charts.
Other hit singles included I Don't Like Mondays, which went spent 12 weeks at the top in 1979.
In 1984, Geldof made history by bringing together some of the world's biggest stars of music to help people starving in Africa with the Band Aid single.
His charity efforts culminated in the Live Aid concerts in London and Philadelphia the following year.
He has continued to campaign for the abolition of Third World debt.
