Festival panel tackles tabloid TV
Rebecca Loos
Rebecca Loos will appear on the chequebook journalism panel
Panels about chequebook journalism TV and whether reality TV benefits the charities it supports will feature at next month's Edinburgh TV festival.

The chequebook journalism panel will include Rebecca Loos, who recently alleged she had had an affair with England footballer David Beckham.

Beckham denied the allegations. Ms Loos appeared on a Sky One show and Channel 4's Richard and Judy to talk about it.

The Cheating on Charity panel will ask whether reality TV fails good causes.

This year's festival was launched in London on Tuesday. It takes place from 27-29 August in the Scottish capital.

The Chequebook versus Notebook panel, which takes place on Saturday 28 August, will also feature former Sun editor David Yelland and PR agent Max Clifford.

'Spending thousands'

The panel will look at the increasing willingness of TV corporations to pay for exclusive interviews, which has normally been the preserve of tabloid newspapers.

"Now even the news divisions of the main broadcasters are spending thousands to secure that exclusive with those in the headlines," a statement form the TV festival said.

The Cheating on Charity panel, held the same day, includes model Jodie Marsh, Lord Charlie Brockett from I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here and Julian Bellamy, head of Channel 4's factual entertainment.

There will also be a discussion on whether TV cameras will be allowed in UK courts, which will feature Denise Brown, the sister of US celebrity OJ Simpson's murdered wife, Nicole Brown Simpson.

Festival masterclasses will be held with comedian and writer Rob Brydon, as well as TV dramatist Andrew Davies.
