Clinton date with Richard & Judy
Bill Clinton
Bill Clinton's autobiography has attracted a lot of interest
Former US President Bill Clinton is to be interviewed on the Richard & Judy show later this month.

Richard Madeley and Judy Finnigan plan to quiz him about his personal life rather than his politics on their Channel 4 daytime show on 12 July.

Mr Clinton will be in the UK to promote his autobiography, My Life, which refers to the Monica Lewinsky affair.

"We'll try to draw out his inner character, to discuss what really makes him tick," said presenter Madeley.

The pair have already interviewed Mr Clinton's wife, Hillary, on their daytime chat show.

"We've always wanted to interview him and have been even keener to have him on our show since we interviewed Hillary," said Finnigan.

Record

"Clinton is an enormously charismatic character and we hope to concentrate on what he's like as a man, rather than a narrow interview just about politics," she added.

Almost one million copies of Mr Clinton's memoirs were sold in under a week in the US, according to his publisher.

The autobiography My Life hit the shelves in the US on 22 June and had sold 935,000 copies by 27 June, publisher Alfred A Knopf said.

It sold 400,000 copies on its first day, the biggest debut ever for a non-fiction book, doubling the record held by Hillary Clinton's Living History.

The 937-page book, which has garnered poor reviews, follows Mr Clinton's life, from his earliest beginnings as a child growing up in Arkansas to the White House.

It gives frank details of his time in office, including his notorious affair with White House intern Monica Lewinsky.
