Evans has been off TV screens for nearly four years

The former presenter of TFI Friday, 38, will reportedly interview celebrities and politicians in their old classrooms for a new show on Channel 4 Learning.

The Sun newspaper said the show would be made by Evans' company UMTV.

Channel 4 confirmed that Evans was "on board" but it was still unclear whether he would be the presenter.

If the show does feature Evans as presenter, it will be his first on-screen role since the end of TFI Friday in December 2000.

It is not known when the as-yet-untitled programme would be shown. Channel 4 was where Evans, a former radio host, got his TV break with The Big Breakfast.

He took a two-year break after marrying pop singer Billie Piper, and has concentrated on his TV production career.

Last year Evans agreed to pay �7m damages to the owners of Virgin Radio after losing his lengthy court battle for unfair dismissal from the station's breakfast show.
