Stars of disaster movie The Day After Tomorrow turned out in London for its European premiere on Wednesday night.

Jake Gyllenhaal, who plays in the summer blockbuster, arrived with his actress girlfriend Kirsten Dunst.

Fake snow was released on fans waiting outside the cinema in Leicester Square as hundreds arrived to watch the movie, which has a theme of climate change.

Gyllenhaal, star of cult movie Donnie Darko, said it was "incredible" to be in London with his girlfriend.

The premiere was met by a demonstration about climate change
His co-star Emmy Rossum, who plays his love interest Laura Chapman, said her male colleagues had become like brothers during the film shoot.

The premiere was met with a climate change demonstration, plus a one-man protest on the roof of the Odeon cinema by a man dressed in a Superman costume.

Writer and director Roland Emmerich, who also made Independence Day and Godzilla, said he would not be making any more disaster movies.

"I know this will be my last disaster movie," he said.

"I am so happy that people seem to like the movie but also that they take something out of it."

The film shows a super storm enveloping the world, sending tornadoes across Los Angeles, pounding Tokyo with hail the size of grapefruit and burying New Delhi in snow.
